The Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Company of Long Island first presented the classic The Mikado in 1954, and has mounted the opera a dozen times since then. Never, however, has it mounted a production like The Mikado: A Long Island Fantasy. Directed by Tony Tambasco and featuring a 12-piece orchestra under the baton of Stuart Watarz, the new show relocated the beloved show from 19th-century Japan to Long Island during the "Roaring 20s." The full-company, orchestra version of the show will debut on Friday, June 17 at 8 p.m. at the Star Theater at the Suffolk Y/JCC in Commack.
