Gayden Wren, a longtime veteran of the Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Company, but absent from the company's main productions since 2007, has agreed to join the cast of the company's current production of "Patience," which will debut on June 10 in East Meadow.
Wren will be stepping into the role of Reginald Bunthorne, which he last played in the company's 2003 production.
"This will be something quite different, though," Wren said, "because I've always played the role in traditional productions, but this one is an updated version set in the contemporary world, with Bunthorne not an aesthetic poet, but an aging rock star--Keith Richards instead of Oscar Wilde. It's going to be a real challenge, and I'm looking forward to it."
Wren is filling in for Michael Economos, the company's longtime patter man, who was forced to withdraw from the production in mid-run owing to health issues.
